"Grampie" meets you in the driveway and if he doesn't have what you are looking for in the tent, he will gladly lead you to the garden and let you select what you want. We picked our own lettuce Friday. Now THAT is fresh!
All of this leads to my favorite summer comfort food, which was on the menu today - Hodgepodge
New carrots, peas and those cute little new potatoes with the almost paper thin skin. And of course there is just no way to low cal this recipe without ruining it. You need real butter and heavy cream to appreciate this dish. It is true Maritime comfort food.
And we even found some crowsfeet greens being sold just up the road. These are another maritime delicacy. They grow mainly in marshy areas. The finishing touch - Nanny's homemade lemon cheesecake pie.
If I keep eating like this, soon this hammock will not hold me anymore :)
It almost looks like chicken ala king and I love that. sandie
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Hodgepodge but never seen it, and I never heard of crowsfeet green.
ReplyDeleteI think that I need to slow down and try some of that menu.
Hugs, JB
I just had dinner and that looks amazing. When I was a kid, that was was we had in the spring. New potatoes and peas in a wonderful cream sauce. Yum, I have never heard of the greens but they look wonderful as does the pie.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are having a good time with good people and good food. Just enjoy your time.
Your Hodgepodge sounds amazing! I'd say those calories are worth eating-enjoy:@)

ReplyDeleteWhy does everything that tastes good have to be loaded with calories? I once heard if you are on a diet and something you put in your mouth tastes good, you must spit it out because it's too fattening!
Pug hugs :)

You just made me crazy with desire for fresh garden peas and other vegetables. And that lemon cheesecake pie? Made in heaven - I'm sure of it. I've never heard of crowsfeet greens - a local delicacy?
ReplyDeleteIt all looks super delicious!!
ReplyDeleteHello Kim, mmmm comfort food, love it. Everything looks so yummy, I`m with you, if I keep eating like that, no more hammock, tee hee. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteI learned something new...crowsfeet greens....hodgepodge looks really yummy too! I haven't made it over to the farmer's market yet, but I'm hoping to hit it on Sat. next week. I'm also hoping some produce is ready....mine won't be for about a month yet..darn! I love new potatoes!
ReplyDeleteLove hodgepodge. Your crowsfeet greens look like samphire greens that we eat near the Shediac shore when I'm at the cottage. Sure wish I was at the cottage now. Your blog showing lobster, greens and hodgepodge makes me very homesick for New Brunswick!
ReplyDeleteOh YUM! I'll have a plate of that please! You can keep the cheesecake... and double up on the hodgepodge for me... thanks! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the lemon pie ~ looks fattening and fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAgain, I'm drooling! That cheesecake looks divine!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Courtney
Looks delicious! CH would never leave such a tiny slice in that pie.
ReplyDeleteYou're killing me with these food posts. It's clear I'd be as big as a house if I lived back there...I have little restraint anymore. YUM....
ReplyDeleteYUM! i picked rasberries but they dont seem even close to being a treat since ive seen your post! enjoy your day kim!
ReplyDeleteYour life sucks so much. You must hate it. I can't imagine having live like that - eating delicious food and lying around in a hammock. You must be going out of your mind. *sarcastic*
ReplyDeleteIt really does look like comfort food. Anything in a sauce I love.
ReplyDeleteI too would not fit in a hammock if I lived near you. hahaha
ReplyDeleteEspecially with a cheesecake around. Oh does this post make me hungry.
It seems ages since I have eaten comfort food.
Love this pic
and you
Maggie
oh my goodness everything looks so yummy, I am with you if your going to have it have the real stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe hammock looks great.
Cathy
Oh my heck....I had to come to this part of my catch-up right before dinner time. Never heard of any of this food, but YIKES you have me drooling....Seriously - it was quite embarrassing. (What is that deep-fried looking thing being served with the hodgepodge and greens? Some sort of seafood??? If I ever get to visit you for real, remember that I want to try some of that. (But hide the fresh peas....they'll never last long enough to make it into the dish if I know you have them....) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
