11 long months and 1 short one

Tonight my family from Vermont said good-bye for another year. This couple are my favorite people in the world. Married for 57 years and raised 6 children and every single summer arrived with the car packed to the rafters for a Nova Scotia summer.

Each year I wait impatiently for 11 long months and then July comes and goes before I know it! Why is that??? So as of tomorrow, I will begin to count down the 11 long months again.

When I was younger I always poked fun at the adults as they hugged and cried as they said their farewells --- and now as I am older I am usually the first one to cry!! I guess as we all age we appreciate time more. After all, they are 78 and 79 years old and drive all the way from Vermont. Really, how many more years will they be able to do this? Many, many I hope but we never know eh!

Safe travels and the countdown starts.......

A Bad Hair Month

Our local weather girl commented on tonight's news that July has been a "Bad Hair Month" ! I couldn't have said it better myself.
Just this afternoon, I was sitting in the staff room at work with Corinne (drinking herbal tea) and I was whining about my hair. I haven't had MY hair all month! This rainy, humid July has me looking like some kind of freak who either suffered a terrible fright or stuck my finger repeatedly in a light socket!!!
You see - I have thick, naturally curly hair. BUT BEFORE ALL YOU SAY HOW LUCKY I AM......it doesn't go into those nice perfect curls in this weather, it goes all fuzzy with waves in wierd places! hehehe And I was getting NO sympathy from Corinne (one of those nasty straight haired people). She told me I should embrace my curls.......IMAGINE. LOL
It is sooo bad that I have a family wedding to attend on Saturday and it is supposed to be an outdoor wedding. I am actually praying it will rain so it will be held indoors and my hair MIGHT look halfway human by the time the pictures are taken! (Oh Angela would kill me if she knew this!)
Anyway, this post is for all the fuzzy heads out there!

P.S. I got 20 minutes of hooking done tonight!

Ten Minute Challenge

I admit it....I have been using the summer as an excuse! There is company to entertain, its too hot, its too rainy, blah, blah, blah! I haven't hooked one little bit all month. And the past few days I started to think it was time to drag out the frame and finally finish the beach themed rug I started awhile ago.
Then tonight as I was checking out some other blogs I noticed this tag. Wow....this is exactly the motivation I need! I don't know if its because I'm a Gemini or just really stubborn and driven but I can't seem to pass up a challenge.
So thats it - I signed up on Red Jack Rugs site and tomorrow I will be a hooker again!
It feels good already. I have a goal!! Yeah......

My first "practice" runner

I figured that since the main reason I wanted to start a blog was related to rug hooking, I should probably do a post featuring a rug!
Since I an relatively new to the craft I don't have a vast assortment completed to show you. But this runner was last winter's project. I wanted to try something a little bigger than my usual and try my hand at shading. Not a bad effort for a newbie, I think.
My friends at Momz Wool dyed the wool for me. The main flowers are a 6 color swatch of sunflowery golds with rose swatches for the centers. I wanted to take away some of the blandness from the centre so I experimented with a watermark type of effect. All in all it was a good practice experience.

Monday again!!

We had a great weekend and spent time with family and friends at the cottage. Sunday was soooo relaxing (as you can see) After a great supper of lobster and salads, I took up residence in the hammock under the trees and just enjoyed the view of the ocean and sounds of the birds.
So now its Monday and I'm back at work so I thought I would post this picture to remind myself of the great day. Its days like this that make me dream of retirement in the future! hahaha Not soon enough!

Taking the Plunge

OK, After toying with the idea of starting a blog for months...I finally decided to take the plunge. My friend Corinne, another rug hooker has a great blog (Momz Wool) and I will blame her for getting me hooked on rug hooking and blogs!
Althought most who know me would attest to the fact that I usually have LOTS to say, now that I am an "official" blogger, I wonder if I will still feel so chatty on a regular basis!!

My day job is in government but I find rug hooking a great way to wind down and relax. I have dabbled in most crafts, but find this outlet the most rewarding to date. Aside from work, my life is very busy and hectic so I am hoping that writing in the blog will be a great form of therapy!!

Ooh and I can't forget to mention Millie - The Wonder Dog. You can meet her at the top of blog and I am sure she will be a frequent topic for postings. LOL 3 and 1/2 pounds of fun!

Thats enough for now.
