All hail the cone of shame

Today was the day - Miss Abby went to the vet for her spay surgery.  She eagerly ran inside.  She loves to see the girls, they all fuss over her.  She still thinks it's a good place.  They were laughing this morning, wondering if after today she will still run happily inside. Lol  She weighed in at a whopping 10 pounds. I wasn't sure what to expect.  Poor little Millie had a rough experience way back when.  Then handed me a sad little barely conscious puppy wrapped in a blankie.  She had to be rushed back in 2 days later.  So I was prepared for the worst.   However Abby is bigger and stronger.  She ran to me.  I was stunned that she was so perky.
She's home, and she's ok.  She is tolerating the cone for now.  She has bumped into the stove, coffee table, etc.  She's a bit whiny and clingy but that's ok.  She will get all the cuddles she wants.
Her pen is now temporarily located in the living room.  But her time in it was about 5 minutes
Momma couldn't stand the whimpering and sad eyes peering out through that cone.  So now she is snoozing on my lap.
I'll have to be careful with the medications.  She has 2 prescriptions with different schedules and I have 1.  I had my flu shot on Monday and ended up with nasty cellulitis in that arm.   This might be my last flu shot!  So I hope I don't accidentally take the dogs pills.  Lol

  2. They do hate those cones, mine just walks around like a drunk so I keep it off during the day when I am watching him and put it on at night for sleeping. I think they are more trouble than they are worth since mine kept trying to lick and whacking the cone on himself.

  3. I feel for you AND Abby for the cone. It always seemed like torture to me and the pups were always so sad and displaced.

OMG, cellulitis from a flu shot? That is scary and thank God I've never had a problem with flu shots before. BUT, do know about the Cellulitis from the horrific bruise my boy Ben caused and was on antibiotics for 10 days.

Hopefully you don't take Abby's meds either as I was disoriented for a day and glad there was only my meds to take. Hope you and Abby recuperate real soon.

  7. Poor Abby! I hope all heals good and quick for her...and you! I've only taken the flu shot this year and last. Job requirement and that makes me furious. I'm really hardly ever sick....not even colds...and this year I had a very sore and red arm for a week. I think whatever they put into the shot this year was different from last year. Last years was useless and all they say is "sorry, we guessed wrong"...l just love being a guinea pig for the drug companies! (sorry, I get on my soapbox about being forced to take meds I don't want or need!) Anyway, hope Abby is better soon! We're still looking for a dog. I contacted a shelter today so we'll see what happens. Our shelter here is having an open house on Sat. I'm planning on going over to see what they have. Wish me luck!

  10. Oh no...not the cone of shame! Wishing the best for you and Abby.

I have to laugh about mixing up the meds...my dad and I were vaccinating cattle. Somehow, I missed the cow and gave myself a shot (an antibiotic) in my hand. I was a little concerned and asked my dad if I would be okay. He told me that not only was I going to be okay, I was now protected against seven different bovine diseases! LOL

    Have a great day!

  11. Sweet Abby....yes, she is much in need of some extra hugs & kisses!! There are actually "soft" cones out there, but I really didn't make my Sophie wear her cone for very long for hers. Enjoy the snuggles! Tammy

  12. Oh my gosh, I hope your arm gets better fast and I am so glad Abby has done so well with her surgery. I bet she is back to normal this weekend. I hope you have a great weekend too.

  13. I wonder what was in that flu shot or needle to cause this nasty infection. I usually get a flu shot every year but I'm having second thought this year. My aunt got her flue shot and was ever so sick after and has not fully recovered yet. She lost 25 pounds. She was very healthy before the flu shot.

I hope you and Abbey heal quickly.
    Hugs,

  14. People must just be allergic to something in the vaccine. They don't use a live flu virus in them anymore. I don't have any problem with them thank goodness. I just got mine the other day. I had to wait til I was done being sick for the past month. Wish I could lose 25 pounds :)

I'm glad Abby is doing well. I hope you both have a speedy healing.
    Take care, Janet W
