You wanna be my WHAT??
So, the other day I open up Facebook and I had a new friend request. Those are always exciting. I mean who doesn't want to make friends, right? Well.........my jaw dropped to the floor and then I started to laugh. You know, that evil maniacal kind a laughter. Mwahahhaha!!!
This story really starts almost 45 years ago. It was first grade and little Kimmie with her honey coloured ringlets had a special pair of scissors. My grandfathers sister sent me a pair of pink plastic safety scissors with the handles in the shape of a little bird. They were so pretty and NO ONE else had a pair like them. They came all the way from Boston!
They were like this only so much better
Then, one day I went to reach for them under my desk and THEY WERE GONE. I looked everywhere, pulling all the stuff out and desperately looking for my extra special scissors. And then I saw them a few desks away, in the hands of Jane Doe. And she wouldn't give them back! I cried and told the teacher and that sticky-fingered first grader told the teacher they were HERS!
I went home and cried to my Mom and she told me to forget it, that maybe "Jane" couldn't afford scissors and needed them more than me and Mom would buy me new scissors. But they would never be the same.
"Jane" took the scissors home and I never saw them again. Hrumph, she probably traded them for cigarettes on the playground from some six graders. Yes it's possible, she was that kind of girl (even at 5 years old)
So it's now 45 years later and apparently I'm still not over it. Lol. I swear when her name popped up its the first thing that came to mind. The second thing to come to my mind was "are they allowed to Facebook in prison?".
Ok, she's not really in prison but I always figured she was destined for there.
So as for the Facebook friend request.........

Oh Kim, that's a good one. I can picture you in the 1st grade with those birdie scissors and the nerve of that Jane Doe... Now you can expose her for being a liar and a thief... You mean the teacher never made her give them back to you? Kim, you have to see if you can find that teacher. After 45 years, it's time to settle this, one way or the other.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine Day.
Hugs,
JB
Wow! Don't know what I would have done.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Valentine's Day
Take care, Janet W hugs
She probably ran with those scissors too!
ReplyDeleteThat is funny, I think people just look up names from their past without thinking, are they really my friends;) I would be curious though, can you see her Facebook pages? I get requests from people I do not know, no idea whey they want to friend me, so i look at their page to see if I can figure it out, that helps to know if they are really friending or just building up their friend list.

Your kidding, she found you? Do you think she has guilt about those scissors? What if she had them and wanted to give them back? What a funny story. What a terrible little girl. I am surprised her Mom didn't get to the bottom of it nor that your Mom didn't call her and tell her Mom. But you are right, my Mom would have said and did the same thing too. Great story Kim.
ReplyDeleteOMG! The stuff that happens when we are kids and we never get over it. I bet you can still feel how awful it was for her to steal your scissors.
ReplyDeleteI think the teacher should have handled it differently. And your Mom. Adults don't realize the lasting impact of kid trauma.
Glad you gave her friend request a big NO!
OMG what a funny story. It's funny to you now but not to a child. Guess she didn't mention this past history to you in the friend request. Might be rather therapeutic for you to hook a small mat with those pink scissors getting ready to cut off a ringlet.
ReplyDeletelol! Great story! It's funny the things we remember from our childhood...
ReplyDeleteOh how dare she!!!!! I know it doesn't seem like much but it is.
ReplyDeleteCathy
Maybe you can find some scissors...and run after her :)
ReplyDeleteYou don't hold a grudge, do you?
Happy Valentine's Day to you and your little bundle of joy.
Lauren
Oh no she didn't!!!! Happy Valentines Day!!! Francine.
ReplyDeleteKim, I'm with you. In fact, I might go as far as to block her.
ReplyDeleteOh, I can relate to your new dog blues. Although my new one isn't a puppy, she is a 4-yr-old miniature schnauzer who never really had much socialization and can only come out of her crate when she goes out with a leash for her three walks a day. We are taking baby steps for awhile.
Proof that those scissors didn't mean as much to her is the friend request. I'm betting she doesn't remember them at all...but you must be unforgettable!! Or maybe she wants to reconnect so she can return them? You never know...
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteI had a recent friend request on FB from someone who was horrible to me and many other in high school - what was she thinking?? Ignored the request.......
I bet everyone has had a "friend" like that from the past. Most likely trying to be nosey. She probably thought you would jump right on her friend request! If she truly felt bad and wanted to apologize, she could have sent you a message.

ReplyDeleteLOL Don't we all have at least one of those people in our past. I agree, "friends" ain't gonna happen. LOL
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the funniest things I've read in a long, long, time... But, oh, how it hits home too....You just zapped me back to third grade.... Maybe we should all message "Jane" asking her if she's seen our scissors. ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
