Feeding the soul

Where would we be without our women friends?  They are the people in our lives who support us, encourage us and lift us up when we need it.  Sometimes they are also the ones who kick us in the butt when we need it.

But no matter what, the bonds formed by women are important.  I was reminded of that this weekend.

Friday night I attended a Women's Dinner Club.  As I told you before the guest list was a secret.  It was a little like Christmas morning, as each time the door opened we anxiously awaited to see who was on the other side.  Each one was a new gift.

It ended up that everyone knew at least 2 - 4 people out of the 16 invited.   It was certainly an interesting collection of women - all different ages, backgrounds, and experiences.  It is going to be a great journey getting to know more about each of these women as the winter progresses.   In attendance were 2 gals I went to high school with and hadn't seen for many years.  It was so fun to reconnect with them.

And the food. . . . . .  outstanding !   But then again, anytime a man cooks and serves a group of women - its going to be a treat. (hehehe)  I am very much looking forward to our next gathering in December.

The remainder of the weekend was equally enjoyable.  Saturday morning there were a few craft shows around.  I shopped a bit and got a few little bits and bobs and also got a few new craft ideas.  Now if I could only find the time to try and make them.

Next stop was to the International Food Fair that was being held in my Church.  There were 12 different countries represented with food.   And it was (conveniently) lunch time as I ventured in.  I sampled some tasty treats from El Salvador, Cuba, France, China, the Congo, Vietnam, Lebanon, Thailand . . . . . I can't remember the others.  Well I tried all 12 samples.    I hear they are planning to expand it for next year.  I will be there - for sure.

I'm glad I wasn't counting calories this weekend - but I certainly enjoyed myself.   If its been awhile since you got together with your gal pals - - - pick up the phone and make the arrangements.  You won't regret it.

  1. I am so glad that you had a nice time with all of your new friends. It sounds like you had a nice weekend and I am so very happy for you. YOU needed it! :) It is raining here off and on today. It is a perfect Sunday, sorry about the rant earlier in the day.:) Normal has returned. My internet has been down most of the day. It goes down when it rains.
I do hope next week is a very, very good week.

Sounds like a perfect weekend to me....certainly better than reading about the different schools of law and the advantages vs. disadvantages of the common law vs. civil law system....(arghh...this hurts already).... That monthly dinner thing sounds so intriguing....what an awesome idea....how were "guests" chosen??? Have a great week ahead Girlfriend....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  9. What a wonderful idea for a dinner. And to have at least some connection with some of the attendees would make even the most introverted feel comfy. We just started a new Fiber Guild here in PS and it was a delight to meet new people who are all connected through a love of fiber.
I echo all your sentiments re women friends.
BTW, thanks for your comment on my socks. Someone at the group has a sock machine - something I'm incredibly curious about - although I am sure it wouldn't fit in the car LOL.

  10. What a great idea your Women's Dinner Club is! So often we get stuck in a rut--same activities, same friends, Not that there is anything wrong with our friends, but expanding our horizons is so rewarding.

  11. Hi Kim,What fun! Keeping yourself active and always having friends to talk to keeps women way ahead of men. I don't know what I would have done without friends to help with their opinions and their insight. I am glad you found another place for friendships . Cheri

  12. Sounds like a fun weekend and I'm enjoying all the pre-Christmas open houses and craft shows. I guess I should stretch myself a bit and invite some gal friends to go too.

  13. Kim: You are so very right about women friends. At the end of the day, they've always been there for me in the worst of times in a way men don't know how to be (they can't help themselves, they're just men). I don't have a large circle of women I consider true friends, but the ones that I do are an intricate part of my foundation of strength.
