Kind acts, large and small

I'm so touched by your comments and emails that I have received in the past few days.  Mom is getting great care and is still fighting.  She remained alert all day which was a gift in itself.

But there have been so many kind gestures it can get a little overwhelming.  And you know I'm soft hearted so the tears flow pretty easily these days.  Friends have stopped by the hospital with lunch, coffee, snack food and just companionship.  Last night we had some snowfall and freezing rain.  Then the street plow blocked off the top of my driveway.  I was scared it would freeze harder and we wouldn't be able to get out over that big ridge.  I called a friend's husband to ask if he would come with his plow to just skim off that lip of frozen slush.  When I got home he had cleaned out my entire yard right down to the bare pavement and then refused to take a cent. I also found an entire pan of lasagne delivered to my home when I arrived.

There is also a coincidental support at the hospital.  In the room right next to Mom's is my friends father.  We were best pals in elementary school and our moms became friends.  Her mother passed away a few years ago and now her Dad isn't doing well.  So we are checking in on each other, visiting each other in our respective rooms or sometimes out by the Christmas tree which is in the hall between our rooms.   It's not nice that her dad is sick, but it is nice that we can be there for each other.

Mom was resting comfortably when I left this evening.  So far it hasn't been necessary for me to sleep at the hospital so I wanted to give everyone a little update. It was simpler than trying to respond to each individually.

Thank you again for all your concern and prayers. It means so much

  7. I've been thinking of you and your mom since you told us she was very ill. I'm so glad that you your friends surround you with acts of kindness and thoughtfulness. I'm been wanting to email you but I know that you would be bombarded by emails so I just waited it out to get an update. I'm keeping your mom in my prayers for healing. It would be such a great Christmas gift to have her home for Christmas.

My son in law's father passed away on Tuesday in PEI and he just got there on time to say goodbye and and his father waited for him to arrive from Ottawa and just passed peacefully. The funeral was today. We couldn't attend because of the bad weather and we had a funeral to go to yesterday also. I'm still not ready for Christmas.

Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
    Hugs,
    Julia

  11. Kim, I decided to read tonight to see what everyone is doing. I am praying for your mom, you and the rest of your family. It is very stressful, but prayers provide us with miracles. God is with us every step of the way. You do have some wonderful friends and neighbors to help you. We were getting freezing rain and now we are getting snow. With everything going on it is a little hard to get in the Christmas spirit, been there with it being spent in the hospital. Try to get some rest and I know it is easier said then done. Take care. Many Hugs and Prayers coming from Your Missouri Friend.

  21. I really do hope she gets lots better fast! And I am so glad you have a great in person support system there. You have a great online support system also, but in person sometimes has that touch you can't get online. Sending you lots of hugs!!!

  22. Miracles abound. The best one is your mother fighting on. And then there are all of the "smaller" miracles - the tender mercies of various angels on earth who deliver service and food and support. We all wish we could be there in person, but know we are thinking of your and your mother this Christmas season. Take care of yourself too - it's easy to forget with so much going on!

  23. That Karen and Julia. I'd like to echo that they both said. Having support is the best, but it IS overwhelming sometimes. I'm in the hosp right now having a total hip done. All those who've been there for me in the past two hospitalizations are here now too. I'm SO grateful.
You've been there steadfastly for your mother and you only have one but take care of yourself too. I think you are amazing!!!

  24. I hope things are still going well I am keeping you both in my prayer.
