Wednesday Word of the Week

This week the word to ponder is:   APPRECIATE
ap·pre·ci·ate   [uh-pree-shee-eyt]

verb, -at·ed, -at·ing.
1. to be grateful or thankful for: They appreciated his thoughtfulness.

–verb (used with object)
2. to value or regard highly; place a high estimate on: to appreciate good wine.
3. to be fully conscious of; be aware of; detect: to appreciate the dangers of a situation.
4. to raise in value.

–verb (used without object)
5. to increase in value: Property values appreciated yearly.

So often we forget to appreciate what is in our lives.  I can tell you from experience that it is much easier to appreciate what you have than to moan and whine about what you don't have.  Just as simple as having a roof over your head and a few coins in your pocket puts us miles ahead of millions of others in the world.
And this is the last Word of the Week before Mothers Day on Sunday so I appreciate the fact that I still have my Mother with me, although she doesn't always know it.  But I do appreciate those brief flashes of recognition that appear.  I appreciate the fact that I have family and work related support that allows me to continue to keep her at home where she is safe and comfortable.

Now, of course, I have to put my own little twisty humor into this post (I hope you appreciate it)

........that I wish you would friggin grow.   I'm not asking for world peace here....just a little sprout for pete's sake!

And lastly, one thing I appreciate is that Kendra finally got the boot last night on Dancing with the Stars.  I have yet to be able to appreciate how shaking your surgically enhanced taa-taa's in front of a creepy old man in a smoking jacket makes you a STAR.   Hellooooooooooo........

  1. Hi Kim.... Great post, love the definition of appreciate... So many people do not realize what they have in life.... I have a great family and lots of wonderful friends and I truly appreciate them..... Unfortunately my mother is no longer with us, but I know this Mother's Day she will be in every one of my brothers and sisters heart, all 16 of us will miss her dearly.....
I agree with you about Kendra. That person should have been thrown off weeks ago, when she said she really did not care... That upset me a little bit, if you do not care why did you sign up to do it is my theory. Just love how you worded her surgically enhanced Taa taa's...

Have a great rest of the week....

  2. I must admit that I had no idea who this Kendra was and I had to go look her up on the web and I agree with you that her Taa Taas are ... well... surgically enhanced for sure but the rest of her sure is in good shape. Now I haven't watched the show so I can't comment on it , all I saw was the interview after the show. I'll take your word for it.

What I appreciate today is still having my front teeth. This morning when I was putting some fresh bedding in my little calf Rosebud's bed she got so excited that she started dancing around and shaking what her mama gave her and was kicking up a storm while I was trying to avoid having her impaled with the sharp hay fork, she kicked the handle of the fork which hit me on my front teeth and I felt pain but luckily nothing broke and I still have my front teeth intact.

Another thing that I appreciate is having a good report on my mammogram and having my Blogger friends.

I'm getting worried about your sunflower seeds about now. How many days is this? Did you dig one up to see what's going on? I hope that you got better luck than I got with my sourdough starter. I'll have to repeat the procedure again, I'm not giving up. Good luck with the sprouting. JB

  3. Kim!! Amen to Kendra ~ although, she was getting better, there was something about her I just did not 'appreciate'!!!!!! Maybe her ta ta's ~ maybe her attitude! I will say that she left without crying, etc. so that was a good thing!! Your seeds may be like our two wisteria bushes ~ never have bloomed in 9 years! Sonny chopped them down 2 years ago and they came back ~ lots of greenery ~ no beautiful fragrant blossoms. Maybe you will want to buy new seeds!!

  4. Kim,
I almost hate to ask..... did you give your seedlings some water?
Really though I think the seeds just know that it's still too dang cold to poke their heads out yet! LOL! Don't give up!
I appreciate getting to know you through blogging and appreciate the wonderful thought provoking posts!
    Hugs!

  6. Since Zip and I 'share' a TV, DWTS is NOT an option! But I sure got a laugh out of your description of Kendra. If there's anything I Appreciate in life, it's HUMOR!
Thanks for giving me an almost daily dose!!!

  9. Nice post, Kim....meaningful, for sure. I love your birdhouse mat...I bet you it will look fabulous.
I can understand what you quite well on the seeds...My thumb is not very green and I usually buy potted plants. I have some ordered from Vesey's seeds and awaiting their arrival. I will post a picture of a "Barrel" that I do each year. Have to hunt it up first...

  11. Why Kim, could it be the seeds you purchased are duds, plain and simple! LOL. It is raining here and I have been grumbling about the weather all day. I sat down and read your post and realized I should appreciate all the wonderful things in my life and not take anything for granted, including the rain! PS, I think I have a crush on Hinds!!!

  15. I anticipate DWTS every week. I could sit like a zombie and watch DWTS until I got a migraine. I may be delusional but I think I could be on the show. Balderdash? No, I actually know how to do many of the dances and I bet I could demolish the competition! You're thinking, "She is really loopy." WHATEVER! I am not discombobulated and a girl can dream, can't she? I would practice relentlessly so that I would not be the first loser voted off the show. If I was voted off first, I would be vindictive and probably have to obliterate the costume department by throwing all of the sequins in the air. You would have to be very chameleon-like every week - new dance - new character. I can see myself groping for the mirror ball trophy - so appreciative of all the hoopla - just for little ol' me!

(I am glad of Kendra's departure also. I love Kirstie but Hynes is a cutie pie on the dance floor - he's got some moves!)

  16. By the way - maybe the sunflowers need more light?? Try putting a grow light on them and fertilizer. Should have seen something by now - weird.

  17. Oh Kimmers - I APPRECIATE YOU! You always make me smile...what a hoot. (I know I told you I ain't no "from seed" kinda gardner and leave the sunflowers to the birds....but if they're truly muddish (hey - new word of the week for you...) perhaps there's too much watering going on??? Hey - just a thought! Like I said, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!) Smiles & Hugs, Robin

  19. Well said, Kim. I appreciate having positive people like you in my world! PS Maybe the seeds were duds???

  20. Well, gee, I don't watch DWTS but you make me want to go look it up just to see what you were talking about. :) Are your sunflowers in the sun?
I think really it happens when we care to much about flowers, they just do it on purpose. Just a secret so you know, I don't have a single tomato, pepper or Zinnia left. I planted them in the garden on Saturday, the wind blew so much they got cooked. Nothing left just dried up.
Now I have to replant. So it isn't you.
