A few minutes of freedom

Or as I like to call it - the day my heart stopped.

I forgot to put the garbage out last night so this morning I was scrambling.  Abby was in the living room so I grabbed bag #1 and threw it out the back door, grabbed bag #2 and then I saw a black blur roar past me and OUT THE DOOR.  No collar, no leash.......I was panicked

Here's how it went:
Abby:  I'm free, I'm free. Wheeeeeee

Me:  OMG, OMG, OMG.  ABBY COME!

Abby:  Nah, don't think so.

Me:  Abby, come now, come get a treat

Abby:  nothing in your hand is as good as what's potentially out here.  I can go wherever I want now instead of where you make me go.   (I swear she was smirking at me at this point)

Me:  (I know if I go after her she will bolt). Look Abby, treat.  Come get it. (I'm panicked).

Abby:  think I'll move off the lawn to the driveway and see what she does.  This is fun

Me:  Abby NO, come get a treat. (I'm waving the treats, leaving a trail by the back step)

Abby:  this is so cool.  Every time I glance toward the road, that big blue vein in Mom's head starts to throb.  COOL!  I think I'll glance at the busy road every 3 seconds and see if I can make Mom's vein explode.  Bahahahaha

Me: (full blown psychotic episode in progress).  (Decides to fake a happy, playful voice). Come on, get the treat.

Abby:  well, I would like a treat, and Mom is starting to turn strange colours.  Maybe I'll just move a couple of feet closer........

Me:  GOTCHA,  you are in so much trouble missy.  Get in that pen!

Abby:  SHIT!,  game is over and Mom is pissed.

AND but the time this little drama played out, I missed the friggin garbage truck!   It was not a good start to TGIF

  4. Oh, Kim, I know that feeling!!! The kind of panic that causes heart attacks.

And now that the idea is embedded into her furry little head it's there to stay. You will have to watch her like a hawk. And once they get a certain distance away from you (like halfway across the yard), their ears can no longer hear your voice even though they can hear other sounds from miles away.
Bolting out the door is 'bad dog' for sure!

  5. Be there, done it, got the tshirt too. One time, Pepper, our perfect schnauzer, escaped and headed towards the road. I was in my nightdress, but chased her until I decided to go back and get help. Ran in the house and got everyone up to help. By the time, everyone was dressed etc, we went out to the car, there she was sitting by the car door, looking smug! Never chase them, they think it's a game!

  6. Just reading this post made my chest tight. Oh my gosh!!! I am so glad you caught her the little rat. I remember when Sasha was as puppy and that happened. I still get sick to my stomach thinking about it. Too bad about the trash too.

  8. Oh they do love to be free...I use a double door system to keep the cats in...Olivia had one escape years ago (chewed through a screen door) and lives to do it again...Abby is going to be dreaming about it all the time!
