More fun than a barrel of monkeys

Do you remember these? Toys certainly were a lot simpler when I was young. No batteries, no computer chips, yet they managed to amuse us. But I digress. My point is this - last night we had more "fun than a barrel of monkeys"

I went to a local theatre production with one of my oldest friends. The show was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. We laughed all the way through, as did the entire crowd. I wasn't the only one seen grabbing their cocktail napkin to wipe away the tears. The show was about a married couple who struggle through menopause and an unexpected pregnancy. Several of the actors were friends of mine so it was even funnier to see their characters and personalities merge.

Today I found yet another unfinished project and thought I'd keep the momentum going and finish it. All that was left to hook were the 3 leaves and I thought I'd bind it with cording and a whipped edge for a chair pad.

Do you think I could find the soft mint green yarn for whipping? NO. And it was the perfect shade, so I decided to wait until I find it. (Any excuse to delay binding, right!). But in the few minutes I did devote to searching, I found some more cotton dishcloth yarn I forgot about so out came the knitting needles.

It was a dreary, drizzly day but at least the snow banks are slowly disappearing.

  1. I hear you on the binding, girlfriend! It's on my weekend to-do list and the weekend is almost over...sigh. Back to the old grind tomorrow.

  2. Is binding the hardest part? And I think it is pretty. And I remember a barrel full of monkeys myself. The play sounds great.

  3. Now that sounds like one fun evening, one that might require Depends! LOL. Very pretty hooked chairpad, hope you find the right shade of green needed to complete it. You can bet little Travis will be introduced to "Barrel Full Of Monkeys" this is an oldie but goodie. Have a good evening, Julie.

  9. It sounds like a great evening out. I love those kinds of plays. I'm glad you had fun.

You are always so productive. LOve the green chair pad rug.I didn't had time to go buy my pink yarn to knit a cancer scarf but it doesn't matter as I don't have time while I'm here either. The tow boys keeps me busy.
    Have a great new week.
    Hugs,

  10. I'm very glad to learn I am not the only one with rug hooking projects half-finished and waiting. UFO's indeed---all kinds for me, really, but it's great that you're, ah, almost finished with another one! Sounds like a wonderful night at the theater.

  11. It sounds like that was a good production you attended.

That is a really pretty rug, too! Hopefully you will find the correct color of yarn.

  12. Regarding the old toys: when my kids were little, the things they loved to play with the most were the old toys my mother had kept from when we were little. No batteries, no frills. Just some imagination, and grandma.

  13. Last weekend I went to a play at our University. One of my coworker's daughter was the lead...very funny "Little Shop of Horrors." It's good to get out and enjoy something different and fun! Your barrel of monkeys was one of my favorite games along with "pick up sticks." Yep, simple, easy, fun and no noise either! (except the laughter!)

  14. I love that chair pad ... so pretty! I hope you find the green yarn soon so you can finish that up. ;-)

My grands have the best time with good old-fashioned toys ... they were here for 3 days and played every day with some wooden blocks and Legos.

  15. When I can't find the right color of yarn, I whip the edges with the wool strips. Take your mint green wool and whip the edge just like you would with the yarn. It looks great and goes faster than it does with yarn.
