Buckle Up

I think you better buckle up -- I feel a Rant bubbling up to the surface!

Have you ever tried to herd cats? That might give you a tiny glimpse of my evening. Some "genius" decided to have a family/friends birthday dinner. I'm not "allowed" to say whose birthday it was (but she lives in my house and its not me or Mom)

So there was me and 3 cars full of seniors.
10 seats at the table. Also 10 different interpretations of what time one should arrive for a 6pm reservation. P.S. the answer is 6pm!!! (Sigh)
9 opinions on where we "should" have gone. (Well, 8 really because poor Mom doesn't care)
8 opinions on what they wanted to order, that was NOT on the menu
7 times I attempted to time-travel to another place. Any-other-place
6 times the waitress exchanged or replaced something at the table
Lalala 5 mini nervous breakdowns (all mine)
4 times someone dropped something on the floor. (Spoons, pieces of food, napkins)
3 times I crawled under the table to retrieve something.
2 times I prayed for patience. (And by patience I mean alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol)
1 time we do this. Seriously - never again!!

I might start this version of the Advent calendar tonight. Hmm, Dec. 5th, so I need to catch up!! Lol

  5. OMG, I can picture you with the crowd of old friends. I'm sure that you'll survive but just the same you are earning your wings girl. Do you suppose that's how we'll be when we are their age? lol

Did any of them got to drink some alcohol or did you drank it all by yourself? They probably would use it as a body rub, lol

You always have a creative way to tell your story. At least you didn't had to drive the bunch in a snow storm. Now that would have been something. Happy Birthday to you know who...

    Love your story.
    Hugs,
    JB

  6. I bet the birthday girl was very happy! (How old is she?) I hope you were happy, too, after finding your patience. Ah, that special place in heaven has your name on it (in a very long time!).
    Hugs :)

  7. I hope they had fun! lol Just another reason why I'd rather not go out to eat with other people at all. I've never had that kind of experience though but still. Now, next year you need to come back and read this post before you end up doing a repeat next year!

  10. Oh Kim! There is usually safety in numbers...but not when some of the numbers (like age perhaps) are so high! Treat yourself to something...anything!

  17. You are too funny! You should write a humorous column in your local paper. You are a good daughter and niece.

  18. OK - this made me laugh. Really hard. But I know that actually being there was tough. How do I know this? Because I have to deal with my elderly aunt and her brain that keeps doing a disappearing act and then reappears in a goofy form. *sigh* Patience. Patience. We too will grow old, and let's hope the patience is paid forward.
