Winter has arrived, wet and white. (Bah Humbug). And I fell victim to a charming young man this morning :). A little background - we've never had much luck with neighborhood kids being around to hire to shovel snow. Last year 2 young lads knocked on the door to shovel the front walk. Our house has almost no front yard so the front walkway is about 10 feet. They wanted $20......EACH!! Lets just say I shoveled my own walkway.
So this morning there was only about an inch of snow down and this sweet faced little boy knocked on the door. He was so polite and I'm a big sucker for a kid with manners. I asked him how much if he cleaned off the back steps and did the short path to the mailbox. His reply...."it doesn't matter ma'am, whatever you want".
Well, he had me right there. There really wasn't a need to shovel but I went into my pocket and gave him $12 for literally 5 minutes of work. Auntie was laughing at me. But he was just so sweet and polite. Then I told him to come back next time it snowed.
It's kind of funny because it was still snowing and now his work is covered by more snow than when he was here. But it was $12 well spent because he made me smile.
However I should note, not everyone was smiling today. Miss Millie is not a lover of much about winter. But she looks cute

Being polite and not thinking you are worth so much ($20/person, geez) is well worth the $12 you spent. Brought a smile to my face too.
ReplyDeleteHo Ho Ho!!!!! Winter wonderland finally, tee hee.....looks pretty though, so does Millie.......ya, I also am a sucker for a polite kid..........We have had snow for about three days now, Hugs Francine.
ReplyDeleteAww, I love kids with manners too. It's so nice to see them, rare as they are. Millie looks adorable, albeit a little ticked off. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of all of the snow. It looks pretty, and I would have fallen for a sweet little kid like that too. I love Miss Millie in her winter apparel. She looks so cute. It is a good thing she isn't a bull dog. She looks a little put out.
ReplyDeleteHave a fun day and drive very safe.
Kim you had me smiling as would've probably done the same thing! Such a rarity these days kids with manners! Bless his heart! Hope he comes back now when you really need him!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww....Millie..... so precious in her little coat!

God bless your heart for making this kid feel good on earning his pay. I'm a sucker for manners too. I hope tht we don't get too much snow this winter.
ReplyDeleteMillie looks so pretty in her pink winter coat and hoodie.
I don't really blame her for not liking the cold. It probably goes right through her. She looks so dainty standing there.
Stay safe and warm. I'm heading out to work in that wet slushy snow. Humbug is right.
Hugs,
JB
Oh fashion doggy! I love that you made two people smile with $12
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,Oh what a cute outfit on Millie. A smile is worth every penny.Hugs Cheri
ReplyDeleteAww, what a good heart you have. Happy Holidays. Sarah
ReplyDeleteI am a sucker for good manners too!! When the kids would knock on the door selling candy bars etc... for school fund raisers I would say....sell me it!! But as my husband says I some how got extra excitement in being excited about stuff!
ReplyDeleteStay safe & warm :]
Millie looks so cute!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
There's a rumor that some snow may float our way by the weekend. I like to see a white Christmas, but then I'm truly over it. Last year was very mild, very little snow, very big smiles at my house. But I guess if I don't want snow I should move! I think it was very nice of you to let that little guy shovel..he has learned the trick to good business..keep the customer happy and they will remember you and probably hire you again! (just a warning!)
ReplyDeleteOh she really does look cute! And I think you did good rewarding that boy for his good manners!
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas!
Christine
I've spent $12 in worse ways ~ you probably have to! You gave him reason to come back out in the snow again. You are helping build a work ethic!!!good, Kim!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, if you divide that $12 by the number of people who got a smile out of it, it was a heck of a bargain... Really, he said "ma'am"? (I remember the first time a young stock lad at a grocery store called me that, and it really depressed me. Now, I get a hoot out of it!) And, ahhhh...Mzzz Millie....You IS STYLIN!!! Pink is so your color!! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
ReplyDeleteMillie looks so cute in her snow suit...wishing we would have some of the white stuff for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteWell you put a Big Smile on his little face too. How sweet of you! I am a sucker for little ones too. It was 12.00 well spent.
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures of the snow. I won't tell you my AC is running as I am sitting here tonight blogging. haha
But the news says we will wake up to 32 in the morning which is a big difference from high 70's today.
In Texas if you don't like the weather just give it a day or two and it will change.
I love your background. Soooo pretty. Wish I could be brave enough to try and change mine. Just know I would loose everything if I did.
Honey I hope you have a wonderful Merry Christmas.
Love ya
Maggie
Hi Kim, Your post brought back some memories of some kids that was going to scoop my driveway for x amount and I told them o.k., but after they agreed they wanted more because they hadn't planned on scooping that much. We are having rain tonight turning to snow later. Did the store to have groceries in the house. I would like your nice young man better then the ones I had in the past. Merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteI would have been a sucker too. We had snow and then the rain came and melted. we are suppose to get more friday.
ReplyDeleteMillie is styling.
Merry Christmas
Cathy
$12 very well spent! Not many kids around here shovel for some extra cash neither... Millie looks so cute in her snowsuit!
ReplyDeleteYour snow looks so beautiful. None here yet, but I keep hoping. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to hear there are still children who want to work. Millie's coat is adorable!!! Does she have snow boots to match?
ReplyDeleteLOL you sound like me with lemonaid stands. I can not, do not EVER walk past one without buying a cuppa (even if I only water a plant with it :-) after all, a gal can only drink so much liquid)! I just can't help but believe that when we reward (a la $ and interaction) kids exhibiting manners, effort, and realistic expectations we confirm for them that they are 'doin' right'. Doing honorable. Doing human. Each kid like that gives me hope ~ and hope one of the magic keys to life...
ReplyDeletePS I want a pink coat like that for MYSELF lol - would match the cool new unders I just got thanks to your link roflmao
(I should probably delete that last line, but then again, let anyone who reads this comment just sit and wonder what THAT's about eh? bwwwaahhhhaaaaaa)
