Supergirl - perception vs reality

It's always interesting to compare perception to reality. This morning as I went through my morning routine it seemed a little chilly. I turned up the thermostat and continued to read the paper. After a while I noticed I didn't hear the furnace running (or feel any heat). Crap! Just what you need on a Monday morning, a busted furnace. Oh, and it was about minus 15 outside.

For some reason I can't explain, I decided I could fix this myself. Apparently i was having a Supergirl delusion. I grabbed my flashlight and headed down to the basement. (AKA where the spiders live). I checked the fuses, then the furnace and hit the reset button. It started to purr.

So I was feeling pretty cocky. I was Supergirl - nothing could hold me down. I went to work feeling like I had saved the day. By the time the Golden Girls got up the house would be toasty warm and all would be good.

Then about a half hour later reality kicked in. Auntie called me at work, she was freezing and crabby. Apparently the furnace stopped purring the second I raced out the door. We had to call the repair man and the good news is it was fixed by 10:30am. So that's 2 (if you believe in the law of 3's). Last week the water heater and now the furnace. What's next?? And I hope it's cheap.

Monday morning lived up to the perception of being crappy. That's the reality!

  1. Oh my goodness, all the necessary utilities are breaking down, next maybe it will be the toilet? You are still our supergirl... I hope that the rest of the week goes well for you and the Golden Girls. Fixed by 10:30am is pretty fast. Thank goodness it wasn't on a weekend or holiday.

You got quite a few new followers. Is still haven't heard from Vicki From Grow your Blog Party and my blog name still isn't on the list.

    Stay warm and safe.

  5. Lack of triumph aside, you still get SGP (super girl points lol) for flearless intervention attempted amid flashlights and spiders :-) And here's hoping number 3 will be a toaster or some-such-simple sort of problem!

    Stay warm!

  9. Okay what??? Your water heater went out too? You didn't say anything about that. Well, I hate the law of 3s but it is true. It drives me nuts. I hope it isn't any big deal.
Well at least on Tuesday, Monday is gone and hopefully it will be a nice rest of the week.

  12. Of course you tried to fix it, that's what Supergirls do. Maybe if you break a fingernail that will be number three.

  15. Awww! That's okay! We all try to fix something we know or sorta know that we can't fix. Haha! At least you tried. I understand the feeling, though. I'm always going around the house thinking everything is my responsibility, and well they all are. I love fixing my own stuff, or trying to fix them. Haha! Don't worry, maybe in time you'll get it! Keep us posted, Supergirl. :)
