A late bloomer

Todays weather was certainly not an indication that "Irene" is on her way.  It was a beautiful sunny late summer day.   Not so for some of you along the eastern US coast.  I have been watching the news reports and hope Irene continues to weaken.

We are not in a direct line of her path but are still going to be affected by the outer bands of the storm by this time tomorrow.   Wind and rain warnings have already been issued here.  I have taken all the outside furniture inside and tied everything else down.

I noticed this late bloomer in the planter a few days ago and decided I better take a photo before it drowns or blows away.  The 2nd sunflower has finally bloomed.

  1. Just love sunflowers but have never tried to grow them. We are now started to get lots more rain and wind here in Baltimore county. Just heard the Chesapeake Bay Bridge has been closed due to the wind.

  5. I love sunflowers. I've only tried growing them once and was pleased with the results. Maybe next year I give it a go again since you've inspired me! Lovely pics!

  6. It's raining hard here at 7 am. In fact, it's coming down our chimney. Don't you love finding out about little house issues during major weather disasters? I hope it peters out by the time it get to you guys. We're expecting the worst starting at noon.

    Love the sunflower!

  7. I don't mind late bloomers at all. This late one is very pretty. We are getting blown to pieces from Irene. There has been a couple of huge branches down from the pines trees on our back hill. Stay safe!!

  12. Sun flowers just put a smile on your face, don't they? I find them to be such happy flowers. See, you do have a green thumb. Hope you are well, the wind is still howling here, but we have survived the srorm minus one tree and a few limbs. Hugs to Millie, Julie.
