Practice

I'm not sure why I thought I needed another hobby but I suppose I am a glutton for punishment.  Your comments yesterday were awesome - lots of great advice, plus some emails with extra tips and many laughs.

I thought yesterdays post title might get your attention.  I had some great chuckles reading them - especially weaverpat who thought I had finally gone over the edge!!  LOL

I went to Walmart this morning to get some cheap chunky yarn to continue with my practice punching.

I'm not sure if it is the thicker yarn or just a little more practice but it didn't seem as difficult today.  Don't get me wrong -- I still have a lot more practice to do before I can say I'm a novice puncher.   I struggled last night with the loose ends.  I couldn't seem to get the hang of "poking" them to the right side so I invented my own solution.  It may not be right, but it works.  I'm not going to explain it because you real punchers might laugh!

So this is what I did after lunch, just a little 4x4 square.  Its not perfect but not too bad for a newbie.  I see a few problem areas but it was a good learning exercise.

Now I need to start my 2nd option for the cancer auction next month.  Time to draw a new pattern to hook.

  1. I am so glad you got it not only are you a wonderful hooker now you are a really good puncher. :) I am so glad you continued on and I would get my thick chunky yard at Wal Mart that seemed to work lots better with a number 10 Punch Needle. So glad your post makes me happy.

  2. Wow, Kim. Good job... You weren't kidding when you said that you were ready to punch. I'm really impressed. It looks so smooth.

Now when you get really upset with someone at work maybe you should do some punching as therapy. At least you'll have something tangible and beautiful to show for. On a bad week, you culd make a lot of progress on your project.

Seriously, I think that you are an awesome fast hooker. JB

  5. I am so impressed with your talent and creativity. You know, I love doing stuff with my hands and being creative and I do not need just one more thing to attend to but if I did, I'd consider taking up punching and NO, not the physical kind.

  6. Kim ~
Was that made with both yarn and wool worms? The background and one heart looks like wool. Good job on your first finished piece!
    Hugs :)

  9. Great job on the punching! Keep punching and trying different yarns...even the thinner yarn when doubled through the punchneedle works great.
