There's a hole in my bucket

Have you ever heard that song?  I'm sure I haven't heard it since I was a little girl but today it popped into my head.  Probably because of the money pouring out of my bank account.  The bucket of money is getting more shallow.

This homeowner stuff is expensive!  Lol.  I had just come from the furnace oil company when the song appeared in my head. I registered for automatic delivery and set up a monthly payment plan.  Ugh, oil is expensive.  They are supposed to fill up my tank tomorrow.  Let's all pray for a long, mild Fall :)

On the home front, I can "almost" see my dining area.  I've been using it as the dumping/sorting area.  Maybe by the end of the weekend I can actually eat on the table!

On a more serious note, I am saddened by the tragic death of Robin Williams.  In my younger days I remember watching Mork & Mindy and even named 2 goldfish after them.  He was so talented and brought laughter and joy to so many people.  He left us so many incredible performances.  Listen to his monologue on golf and try not to laugh.  I dare you.  Yet sadly depression would not relent.  As a society we often take depression lightly, yet when it has it's grips in you it isn't always possible to just "look on the bright side".

It is such a shame that it takes a tragic event to put light on this issue.

  1. Our current home is total electric but we had one house that required propane gas and it was so expensive. It was like pouring money down the drain! I do hope you have mild weather. Glad you are making progress. Everything ended up in our laundry room and garage until we could find a place for it!!!
I hope Mr. Williams will be remembered for the joy he gave to so many and that his passing brings awareness to depression.

  2. The money that goes out for maintaining a house eventually lessens. The trick is to still be alive and young enough to enjoy it when that happens. Mr. Williams was one of a kind and no one will ever come close.

  3. Kim I should have warned you that homeownership can be a financial drain... and especially an older home that needs TLC! One has to be willing to live with some things for awhile... ( but 12 years with an orange sink has not been easy... sigh..!)
Robin Williams has left a legacy of good works and that should be remembered. Maybe his death can open more doors for those suffering from the same tragic disease. May he RIP and sending prayers for his children and family.

  4. Money to a home is money well spent! :-) But yes... the initial output is VERY scary! lol! Eventually it will even out...
I was very saddened to hear about Robin Williams... he brought so much laughter to the world.... and is one of my most favorite actors/comedians...

  5. Hi Kim, I am so excited about your new house. I have loved all the pictures so far. Such pretty flowers all around.

And been there done that with putting furniture together. I bought an office desk years ago. Took me hours to put that silly thing together. My fingers were so sore from using a weird little tool to turn the screws. Its an allen wrench or something. I told my self never again. lol

Since then I have moved on to simpler things....like bookcases :)

Have fun in your new home my friend.

    Take care, Janet W

  6. I know home ownership is crazy at first, but it will get better. I was very sad to hear about Robin Williams. I feel so bad for his family. He brought joy and happiness to so many, but unfortunately he couldn't find it for himself.

  7. Hi Kim, Home ownership can be expensive, but just think about that it is yours. You can do what you want without making sure it is o.k. with a landlord. I have learned about putting things together and doing a few other things living by myself. Sometimes the instructions are written right . I remember Mork and Mindy. It was one of the shows we always watch. He will be missed. I have watched his movies over the years. It is sad for his family. Maybe something can be done to help people suffering. Have a wonderful day and enjoy your home. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.

  8. I agree with you that home ownership can put a drain on your bank account at first but with planning and a little time it's worth it as opposed to renting. You'll have equity.

Ditto on comments about Robin Williams' death.... He was one of a kind and so talented and he will be missed. RIP Robin

  9. I remember that song, haven't thought about in years! Sounds like you recently moved. We did that a few years ago, it wasn't fun!

  10. We got rid of our propane tank and never looked back. It was sucking us dry. Robin Williams left me without words yesterday.. so sad.

  11. I remember that song from my childhood.
I can relate to it as well!
