Burlap and sharpies

I have a strong desire to hook lately. I have missed the feel of the wool between my fingers. All week I thought about having the whole weekend to hook a small holiday rug.
I bought new burlap. I had a brand new sharpie.

And that's where the story ends folks. I drew (attempted) and it didn't look right. So I flipped it over and tried on the other side. Still nothing but some mis-formed shapes.

Maybe I'll have the artsy spirit tomorrow. Today it seems to have left me.

  2. Kim, I guess I need to proof before hitting hitting publish!
As I was saying...don't you just hate when that happens? May your mojo return tomorrow.
    Hugs :)

  4. Try some Christmas music... or your favorite Christmas movie! Maybe your hooking urge might really be for a turkey? Trace around your hand and have fun! :-)

  5. Hi Kim, gee you're brave to just draw free form directly on the backing like that. I draw a tiny rough sketch on paper and then redraw it bigger on paper and trace it on my backing. I'm not very good at drawing and it takes me a while.

Your Mojo will return. Maybe try a glass of wine to relax before drawing. You always come up with nice designs.

    Hugs, JB

  7. Well I don't think I could draw free hand to save my life on burlap. That is where all of those years and years of art school for my kids pays off. I had K. here the other day and I showed her what rugs I wanted and she just looks at my pictures and draws them. :) I wish though I could draw things from my head.
I hope that today you will be able to get a better handle on it.

  8. My wool and supplies are stuffed in corners all over the place! Four and half years after taking in my brother-in-law and our house is still so disorganized from the caregiving and my own illness. I miss my wool so much. I'm hoping the writing and reading about your adventures will inspire me again. :) Can't wait to see what you do come up with.

I had it enlarged and changed a few things it really feels good to have a project again.
I am sure you will get your mojo back.

  10. That happens, and then one day you'll go at it like a house on fire and know exactly what it is you're doing. Hang in there...hook circles or something until you figure it out!

  11. I don't hook but I know what it's like when you try to start a project and then have it go wrong....but don't worry I'm sure you'll get back to it in no time. Good luck.
