Wednesday Word of the Week

This weeks word is........Discombobulated

dis·com·bob·u·late   [dis-kuhm-bob-yuh-leyt]

–verb (used with object), -lat·ed, -lat·ing.

- to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate: The speaker was completely discombobulated by the hecklers.

- to confuse or perplex someone. : That kind of discussion discombobulates me something awful.

- confused. : I get completely discombobulated when I think of figures that big.

Origin: 1825–35, Americanism ; fanciful alteration of discompose or discomfort

—Related forms    dis·com·bob·u·la·tion, noun

That about sums up the past week.  In the past week we have had a loss in our family, a cousin of Moms.  So with all the confusion of schedules, plus all the extra family that arrives from out of town for the few days surrounding the funeral it has discombobulated all of us.

And then there was the Super Moon.  If you don't believe that a full moon can discombobulate some people - just ask a nurse or nursing home worker.  It happens - trust me.

Then this morning, the alarm went off as usual but I was completely discombobulated.  I couldn't seem to get it together.  I couldn't figure out what day it was, what I was supposed to do, nothing.  I was completely befuddled for a few minutes.  Then as I started to "wake up" I remembered the dream I was having.  I went downstairs to take Millie out and when I tried to open the door from the mud room out to the porch it would only open a few inches.  The entire sun porch was filled with snow.  Right up to the ceiling. No snow outside or anywhere else - just filling in the sun porch.   Hmmmm I wonder what a dream analyst would have to say about that one??

And I didn't even eat anything strange before I went to bed.  Ohhhh, but it didn't stop there.  After I went downstairs and saw the porch was NOT filled with snow, I went about my morning routine.  Sat down to read the paper and after a couple of sips I thought my coffee tasted funny.   DUH.....it was tea.  I never make myself tea in the morning.  Its always coffee.   Wow I really must have had a rough sleep.

I suppose it was a good thing that I only had to work a half day today.  At this rate, you never know what kind of trouble I could have caused.

Lets hope you don't get too discombobulated this week.  Its a wild ride!

Oh yeah - you may think I am still discombobulated because it is still Tuesday night and not Wednesday but after this week - its close enough to Wednesday to count for me.

  1. Oh, dear Kim ~
You have a wicked sense of humor, discombobulated or not!
    Pug hugs :)

P.S. I'm glad the snow part of your dream was NOT true.

  2. Oh Kim If I had been drinking coffee I might have spit it on the keyboard when I got to the part about it being Tuesday and not Wednesday. I love your sense of humor in all situations. I am sorry about your cousin, and yes, I have always thought the Moon did something weird. We always had the weirdest things happen on nights of a full moon when I worked so I will say it was something I noticed. I never thought about your Mom.
I hope things get better tomorrow. I am so glad there wasn't snow on the porch.
    Hugs from me to you.

  5. Kim, I'm sorry for your lost. Funerals are enough to discombobulate anyone. Snow up to the ceiling in the porch, is downright nightmarish. I think that you need a good dose of sunshine to counter balance this long winter that has left you discombobulated. So I'm praying for SUNSHINE in AMHERST. JB

  6. Oh Dear Missy Kim - you are too, too funny! "Discombobulate" happens, though, to be one of my favorite words....as it pretty much sums up my world most times....well, that and "kittywampus." And, hey - that "dream" (i.e., NIGHTMARE) of yours actually is playing out right here in my house right now. I don't have a sun porch, but it is thundering, lightning, and the snow has drifted so horribly I couldn't let the Snow Dog out to do his business. Hope you haven't connected telekinetically somehow! Anywhohow - love the kitty pics! They know how to discombobulate right!

  9. Kim...you always make me laugh! I think your dream must mean that your subconscious is thinking that your snow is never going away. It's moving in with you!!! Yikes!

  11. You write the best posts...I'm always discombobulated! I think it actually has to do with the multi-tasking I have to do everyday at work. My brain no longer can think in a straight line!

  13. Kim, thanks for reminding me of that word. It was one of my father's favorite expressions. I do think his children "discombulated" him often - fortunately he was a patient man that loved us dearly.
So sorry about your loss - maybe some of Julia's lemon pie will help!

  14. I am either discombobulated or just plain loopy! Was I delusional to think that spring had sprung? That hope has been obliterated as this relentless winter continues. Yesterday we had a day of rain - grass was showing - then the vindictive snow hit last night and demolished the spring like scene outside. WHATEVER! It's enough to give a person a migraine! But, I try not to be a loser and continue to grope for thoughts and hopes of spring. . . . . sigh.

Sorry about your family loss ... may his/her soul RIP.

Chuckle! You are cute. Doesn't take much to discombobulate this household.

LMTY the full moon has a huge impact on life ... oh, mercy, what 'stuff' occurred in the restaurant when I worked there. Drs/nurses will tell you some wild tales on these nights also.

    Have a lovely week ~

  18. Kim I love that word my mom used it all the time but I didn't think it was a real word. I look forward to the Wednesday word I didn't think to look for it on Tuesday!! I also look forward to Michelle's responses. Between your sense of humour and Michelle's I get a really good laugh on Wednesdays for sure.
    Thanks for the chuckle.

  22. Kim I love the word discombobulated. I love befuddled too. The word. It's a good thing because I spend a good deal of my time discombobulated and befuddled. I have been enjoying Michelle's comments on your words too! Sorry about your loss in the family Kim.
