Thursday random

Today was the first day of school in our town.  I had to laugh this morning on my way to work.  First I saw a few little ones.  I'm always amazed at the little grade 1's. So full of excitement, skipping down the sidewalk - laughing and chattering.  So anxious to learn and make new friends.

Then a little further up the street was the bus stop for the high school.  A bunch of teenagers - sullen, heads bowed, scuffing their feet - like they were heading for a shift on the chain gang

It cracked me up.  Such a difference.

Now switching gears......since the pie was a success I am moving on to more baking adventures.  I aim to make a pan of tea biscuits that are edible.  I tried many many years ago and well......you could have used them for hockey pucks.

And a co-worker had a bumper crop of zucchini this year and brought the surplus in to work.   They were enormous.  This one was not even close to the largest one there.  I took a picture next to Millie so you could see it's bigger than her.  Not the best pic but she was being less than cooperative

So I think a few zucchini breads are in the future.   Any other ideas?

  2. lol! Too funny about the school age comparisons! I think I was excited to be a freshman in high school... and then I was excited to graduate... nothing good in between.... lol!
Some folks hallow out the zucchini and then fill it with a bread crumb, ground beef mixture.... though, since I haven't tried it, I don't have a recipe to share... happy baking!

  3. That is so true about the elementary and high school difference in demeanor!! My daughter who is a senior is always completely exhausted, and I can't blame her since she leaves the house at 6:30 am! Yuck! You're quite the little baker! Can't wait to see!!

  5. Hi Kim....wow yummy food in your last few posts. It is amazing how big those zucchini can get.

I don't eat it much here so i don't have any ideas about it. :)

Scary mosquitos I think I spelled it wrong. We have enough here to keep us busy. And the giant ones too.
All kinds of big and little critters roam the grounds here.

Have fun baking. Take care. Janet W

  8. My Greek Grandpa would always scold my Mom if she let the zucchini get that big...they are suppose to be small to be the best I guess! I usually grate zucchini and put 2 cup measurements in a freezer bag and then freeze it to use later. So make that bread (or a delish zucchini chocolate cake!) and then freeze any leftover zucchini. Or make all the loaves you can and freeze them for later! Seriously, I don't think I've used the word zucchini that much...ever.
