Blooming

The love and laughter has continued throughout the weekend.  I think that the concept of celebrating your birthday over several days should catch on - it is so much more fun that way!

I did go out to dinner with some girlfriends last night.  We did "howl" a little - well.....howl with laughter!  The food was great, the drinks were flowing and the company was excellent.   I think we need to do that more often.

The thunderstorm that threatened all day never materialized so late in the afternoon I grabbed the camera to capture a few backyard images.

The lilac tree is just ready to burst with blooms.  This is the best this tree has blossomed in years.  It suffered some ice damage a few years back and looks like it is recovering nicely.   I just love the smell of lilacs.

Can't you just smell them?

You know I hate to garden but I am actually considering planting a few flowers this year.  I have a bed in the back yard that is a mess of ugly perennials.  I wish the Garden Fairy would come over and dig it all out so I could start over.  (Do you think that might actually happen?  Probably not eh!)

Since there is still potentially one frost left, I will wait another week and then see how I feel about digging in the mud. (Blahh)  So, in the meantime, here are some "voluntary" flowers.

I think I have the only camera shy birds in town.  The yard is always full of birds - - until I take out my camera.  Seriously, as soon as I bring out the camera they just scatter.

There was a bird in front of this birdhouse when I snapped this picture.  I swear!!   Stupid birds.

  1. gosh you make me laugh. I am never fast enough to get birds either. You flowers look amazing. Not to mention your lilacs. I love them better than any flower in the spring and I can't grow them to save my life.
I am so glad your storm never showed up. Have a great day tomorrow.

  2. I too love the smell of lilacs but never had any. Isn't that strange.
You seem to have the same problem I have when taking pic's. So I believe you when you say there was a bird there. lol
This is a neat little bird house. What is it about bird houses that we all love them.
Take care sweetie and I am so sorry I missed your big special Birthday. 39 again is a special one.
    Love ya

  3. I love your little yard sign. And so glad that you got to celebrate again. What a fun birthday.

I LOVE lilacs. I had lilac bushes outside my bedroom window growing up. That is one of only a few smells that my nose can handle. :) And yes I took a whiff, they smelled soooo good. :)

I love your photos. You may have to ask Nana Diana about the garden fairies I think she is stealing my dish fairies for her garden. :( lol

Have a great weekend. Take care, Janet W

  8. I'm glad that the celebrations are on going. I too love the lilac scent and the blossoms are just so gorgeous.

If yo find out where I can get in contact with the garden fairy, let me know as i have a huge bed that needs to be started over.

Dandelions, I've had more than my share but apparently they are super good for health.

I believe you about the stupid birds. They are very flighty> Have a great day.

    Hugs. JB

  9. Hmmmm....looks to me like you might have scared the crap out of that little birdie by the looks of what's left on the side of that birdhouse..... ;o) Oh....I love me my lilacs....they're my all-time favorite. Unfortunately, the freaky weather this year meant not a single bloom for me. Boo Hoo. And Mother Nature continues to be menopausal here - Thursday we were nearly missed by two tornadoes; Friday, the gale-force winds continued; yesterday we were in the 50's and today, 91. Next week back to mid-50's for a high, and mid-30's for lows. Yikes.... Talk about hot flashes. Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  10. I love lilacs and ours bloomed early because of a warm March..unfortunately April was very cold and the frost killed the blooms..so not many this year. Your season is much later than ours. Have a great weekend. It's Memorial Day for us which means no work tomorrow and lots of parade, cemetery visits, and thanking all our military for great service. (plus a bunch of ribs on the grill!)

Your lilac is wonderful! I only had a couple flowers this year because of the serious pruning I did last year. I just love their scent!
Nice to see you posting pics that you took. I miss that!
    Hugs :)

  14. Belated birthday wishes. Loved the shoe card.
I have a girlfriend who had the best way to express the birthdays and that is "plenty nine", which still makes me chuckle. Your lilacs are beautimus - one of my rug hooking students brought me some last Wednesday and they are gone, but left me wanting more. Hope the b'day celebrations last a lot longer.

  15. Happy Birthdays...The idea of celebrating your birthday for several days has caught on! We've been celebrating our daughter's birthday over several days since she was 10. We love it...It's a family affair! We go on a vacation, spread the presents over several days, & top it off with a big cake on the big day....Yey birthdaysssssss :o)

  16. Oh my gosh, the lilacs!!! I can almost smell them. I too want a beautiful garden of flowers, but I'd love someone to come over and plant then and tend to them. I just want to look at them.
