Taking a Toll

The past 2 months have begun to take their toll on me.   The month of June was busy at work plus I was spending every spare minute trying to get the cottage ready for the renters.  Sewing, cleaning, killing critters, cleaning, reparing, cleaning! Uuggh!
I even made up a special Welcome Basket for the renters. All pretty with ribbons etc and filled with wine, fancy crackers, candy etc and a little welcome note so they would have a nice greeting when they arrived.  Well they left yesturday AND they didn't even leave a thank you note.  Seriously??  Am I being crazy and unreasonable??  Wouldn't you think they would at least leave a little note after being there for a month??  Maybe its just me, but I was expecting one.......I would have left one!

Then there has been the steady stream of company all July.  Everyone is leaving on Saturday.  Now don't get me wrong - I love them and there will be a flood of tears Friday night when they leave.....but it certainly has thrown our routine off.

This is how I feel this morning.........

And I have been letting the chores go a bit.  I have just been doing the bare minimum.  The laundry is piling up....
And the cupboards are starting to look like Mother Hubbard's.  I haven't done a full grocery shop for weeks.
But, if I can just hang on until Friday at 4:01pm, I will be on VACATION for 2 weeks.  A "no company", just for me vacation.   Oooh, 4 more days!

  1. Yah... they should have left a thank you... when we rented cabins for vacations we always cleaned before we left and left a basket of flowers or something with a note. BUT, don't be discouraged as maybe something (a note) will arrive in the mail in a couple of weeks! :-) Everyone has their way of doing things. Enjoy YOUR vacation! Sounds like it is really needed too!

  2. I have to agree with MooseCraft, but in saying that because they are relatives they should have said Thank You verbally.

"Had a Great Time" "Love the View" "We'll be back completely relaxed now"

    Just my thoughts.

  3. Dearest Kim,
First off I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your comment on my blog yesterday. Your help is greatly appreciated and I decided to do the "white lights" as in my original rug. Yes, the little kindnesses that are so often overlooked these days by some mean the most!
Breathe in slowly filling your lungs with air to the very bottom........exhale slowly.......letting those disappointments flow out with your breath.
Your kindnesses and abundant giving to others are deeply appreciated my friend!

  4. My favorite saying is "The only reason we are ever disappointed is because of our expectations"!!!! I am on a path of learning to expect less of people ~ it's amazing how that works!!!

  5. You sure are a wonderful person to go through so much trouble to set out such a welcome gift, Kim. I sure hope you do get a "Thank You"...you deserve it but listen to Alice..it is so true what she says..
I will be in the same predicament as you with laundry and every other chore left undone beginning in about ten days when family begin to arrive for our "Come Home Year Celebrations", which continues for ten days...I guess I will feel as you do right now but will love it....

  7. Hi Kim,
WoW! It sounds as tho you are more than ready for a vacation! And I would have expected a thank you too! So hard just to scratch 8 little letters on a piece of paper! I think most people are so wrapped up in themselves or whatever today to be thoughtful! Good to know at least you still are.
I have my in laws coming again in October ... love it when they come ...but I love it more when they leave.
Just hold on you are almost there! Have a great vacation! Oh, and happy 1 year bloggin'
