The day after

Whew, democracy is exhausting!!  But it's over.  (almost)  There is still the clean up and reports to file etc.  But the main event that has consumed my life lately has passed.

So, in case you are wondering, our Mayor was re-elected last night.  It was a close race with the margin being less than 250 votes.  Of the 5 Councillors who re-offered, 4 were re-elected but sadly one was defeated.  So we will have 2 new faces around the table next month.

Yesterday morning started at  6:50am with a ringing cell phone as I raced out the door and ended at 10:30pm when I dragged my tired body home on swollen throbbing feet.  (But those boots looked fabulous)  However my new election day suit was wasted.  It is the end of October for Pete's sake and the weather was in the 70's.   Certainly not conducive for my outfit which was meant for a late October cool, crisp day.  That fabulous wool tweed jacket was not on me once and the cute turtleneck was torturous.

While we work on election day we usually just grab junk food on the run.  Yesterday 2 of our male coworkers arrived with contributions of a hot, home cooked meal for us.  Awwww, sweet right?
Warm corn bread and a great Philippine inspired rice and chicken dish.   It sure beat the pizza we were planning to order.

Today I went back to work and tried to clean up some of the mess. The rest of the day involved just doing nothing.  I sure miss my hook, but I think it will be another few days before I pick it up again.  Office moving day for me is scheduled for Thursday.  So after I finish all the election reports it is time to start packing boxes.  It is amazing the crap you accumulate over 16 years.   If I was smart (and had more time) I would purge, but the truth is I probably will just fill boxes.

I sure have missed regular blog posting and reading.   It's great to have some time back!!

  1. Kim ~
It's over! Yeah for you and you survived, with bells on, I'm sure :) Too bad about your suit!
I'd be like you and just pack everything.
    Pug hugs :)

  2. You did a fine job I am sure, and now try and relax for awhile.

  3. I can hear those boots making haste for home now! Finally, you can take a deep breath, flop in your favorite chair, put your feet up, and give sweet little Millie a hug! Have a great Monday, Julie.

  4. Hey Kim...Yey!!!!Put your tired feet up and enjoy yourself....Blessings Francine.

  5. Glad it's over and your Mayor was re-elected. Hope all goes good for your community. Now sit and enjoy the quiet! I never mind when Mother Nature sends in a warm day in January, but in October I look forward to a crisp fall day! Sorry the suit was a bummer, but I bet you looked lovely! Welcome back!

  6. Hi Kim, We have had all kinds of weather in our area from cold to warm even the upper 70's. I wish I could say our election was over too, but we have a couple of more weeks left to go. I am tire of all the political campaigns messages left on my answering machine. You deserve to take a couple of days of Me time. Have a great week. Your Missouri Friend.

  7. I'm glad your Municipal elections is over and done with for your sake. I'm sure everyone must be relieved too after all the campaigning and preparations and are appreciative of the great job you did.

I'm glad that you got to enjoy your nice boots but your poor feet might have had other ideas.
I love turtleneck sweaters too and It was so hot today that I had to take mine off for a while this afternoon. Don't worry, you'll get to wear your smart suit shortly as it will get cold soon enough.
I'm sure that Millie was glad to see you coming through that door and needed some cuddles right away.
Hope your week starts on a happy note.

  8. So glad it's over and you can get back to normal soon. And yay for home cooking! :)

  9. Ahhhh...Welcome back to "Normal." Well, ok....Normal-ish??? ;o) Glad it's behind you. Sounds like a ball of stress to me. And, yikes - moving offices nipping at your heels....I had to do it several times (carpet replacement, office moves, new furniture, etc.) and always said "perfect time to purge and organize..." Ha! I was lucky to have stuff stuffed in boxes as they screamed for me to hang up the phone and LEAVE....Good luck with that my friend. Wishing you a stress-free and "normal-ish" week ahead. Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  10. I know you were busy with the election, but somewhere in all the turmoil, I bet you had some fun. Funny about your October suit.

  11. Welcome back to reality! It's crazy here, too!

  12. I am so glad you are finished and this is done for 4 more years!! I hope you can get back to nice and normal, well until after your move on Thursday. Any hope for time off? I hope you are feeling better. I bet your are exhausted. I hope you have a nice Monday.

  13. Life sure gets in the way of fun. I got my ballot in the mail for our presidential election. Oy vay! Hugs Cheri

  14. Hope now that the craziness is over you can breathe a sigh of relief and get back to normal (whatever that is!)
