Oh no, it's happening again

I'm not sure how it happened but I've let something creep into my mind again.  Puppy thoughts.......

Poodle puppies - a breed I know and understand.  Cuddly, affectionate, smart poodles.   HELP ME!

Ok peeps, I need your thoughts and advice on this.  Am I crazy?  Should I?  Shouldn't I?  Pros? Cons?

I need your thoughts on this.  My mind can't be trusted ;)

  1. Puppies are a lot of work but if you get a new pup - you can train them right from the beginning and hopefully avoid the bad habits. Or a well behaved adult rescue dog. Sometimes an owner moves or runs into other hardships and a great adult dog ends up at the shelter. Maybe even a poodle!

  2. Kim,
Do what you think is right for you, but there are so many rescue dogs looking for a furever home. Are you sure you want to go the puppy route again?
    Hugs :)

  3. I do think it is purely what is in your heart. Only you can make that decision.

  4. Just do what you think you would be comfortable with. Millie was a nice, calm poodle. I think that might work better. Yorkies are just bundles of busy. Ron's mom had them and they were just like yours was. Busy.
    But a puppy is a puppy. :)

  5. I can't decide for you but if you get a dog, i hope it will be the right one for you. They live a long time.

  6. Kim, after many years of joy with all of our doggies, since Maddy's passing, we have decided to not have another furbaby. First, I don't think I can take losing again, and secondly, vet bills and general care has become too expensive. I miss the companionship of a pet but also, enjoy to some degree, the freedom.
It's a tough decision either way.

  7. I think everyone has said it all. I don't think I can add to it. :)

You will choose what is best.

Have a great week my friend. Hugs

  8. I have loved our dogs and miss them very much. We haven't gotten another one after Monica died and will wait till after our move for a new puppy. Puppies are a lot of work and yes vet bills are expensive and pets take away some of your freedom but... we love them. You will have to decide for your self whether none of this matters. So many shelters have wonderful dogs needing furever homes. Good luck!

  9. We have a standard poodle that has been perfect from the day he came home with us at 8 weeks old. He is now 9 and I would not hesitate to get another poodle. We also have a havenese and had a yorkie, and also have a cat. We love them all. Buffet, the poodle, is so smart and has been an easy loving, fun companion. We adore him. I don't think you can go wrong with a poodle, at least a standard!

  12. With the right match of dog to owner, there are few things more rewarding than having pets share your home. Is say go for it!

  13. For the heck of it check out your local rescue center, just maybe a poodle is there waiting for you and can visit a couple times to be sure it is a good match. Or inquire at vet offices to see if someone has a pup or good adult dog for adoption. The vet is how I learned about Ben and he is a wonderful dog. Many would hesitate adopting a Rottweiler but I got a good one!!

  14. Well, obviously it's up to you. It's like having a child - vet bills, grooming, boarding... HOWEVER, might I suggest the "doodle" mixes!? So many cuties out there!! Said the mom of a Goldendoodle - he has brought much joy and is super smart!!...:)

  15. It's a hard decision to make. When we lost our dog, I was so heartbroken I decided I didn't want any more pets but after so long I found myself wanting a new little someone to love. We got a kitten, he's 2 now and he brings us so much joy :)

  16. I say "Go For It!" But please check out the local dog shelter...you never know...you could be the forever home for the perfect pup! We adopted a "mutt" from our shelter many years ago....we called him Ferris the wonder dog...he was incredible and lived with us for 15yrs until he went to heaven. I think there's a perfect match out there for you! Good luck~

  17. I think you'll know when the time is right. It really is a tribute to Millie if you get another dog. It means you loved and enjoyed her so much. Good luck with your decision.

  18. You will know when your ready . Sometimes we think we want something and then a couple days later were not so excited. I keep thinking i want chickens again and then the thought of starting from baby chicks seems alot of work.

  19. Hi, Kim, I thought I'd throw in my thoughts on this. I read how you had to give the other puppy back, I'm sure it was the right decision. Yes, poodle puppies and smart, cute, cuddly, and wonderful companions...but, they are PUPPIES! After reading that you are gone during the day, I wonder if you would be better off adopting an adult dog instead of a puppy. I can't see any puppy being able to be in a crate all day, unless you can come home several times during the day?? Puppies = so much energy and tiny bladders.
